The Cleveland Cavaliers may have lost to the Golden State Warriors, but they weren't that far away from ending the city of Cleveland's championship drought. Here are three things they need to do to win the title next season:
1) Stay healthy
The biggest reason the Cavs lost the last three games in the Finals was because their depth was decimated by injuries. Anderson Varejao, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving - all starters - were hurt either during the season or in the Finals (or both), and Cleveland becomes a much more lethal team with a fully healthy supporting cast around LeBron James.
2) Keep Kevin Love
Love can opt-out of his contract this offseason (so can LeBron, but he won't be going anywhere) and has been rumored to have been unhappy in Cleveland this year. There were multiple reports of him thinking about joining the Lakers or another team next season, and while he has consistently denied those reports, Cleveland won't be anywhere near as good without him.
3) More bench scoring
Even with Love and Kyrie back next season, J.R. Smith is the only other play not named LeBron James that is considered to be an offensive player. Matthew Dellavedova and Iman Shumpert are defense-first players, and Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao are rebounders - but not scorers. Cleveland needs to find another consistent scoring option for them to reach their full potential next season.
