Xavier's steady rise can keep Chris Mack in place

SAN JOSE, California – There is a basketball-crazed community 130 miles west of Cincinnati that no doubt wants what their Ohio neighbors have. Consistent national respect. But moreover, consistent basketball success. A consistent tournament factor. A coach that consistently can recruit Indiana.

Indiana University hasn’t competed for a national title or been to a Final Four since 2002 and frankly, in the last decade, has seen Xavier University appear in more NCAA tournaments and win more games in it. This is Chris Mack’s fourth Sweet 16 appearance. The Hoosiers are looking for their fourth head coach since Bobby Knight was fired in 2000.
