The radar guns and scouts first started popping up behind backstops for Zac Lowther last summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League while he was with the Brewster Whitecaps.
Then a rising sophomore for the Xavier Musketeers, the left-handed Lowther was just weeks removed from a head-turning performance in the NCAA Tournament against host Vanderbilt University of the baseball-rich Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Lowther spun seven innings of four-hit, one-run, eight-strikeout ball against a favored, 43-win Commodores squad to earn a memorable victory in the June 4 tournament opener.
