Xavier University men's basketball grad transfer Kyle Castlin: 'I'm playing for my father'

CINCINNATI – There are times on a basketball court when everything goes wrong. Heads instinctively hang down and look to the floor in uncertainty.

When that happens to Kyle Castlin, he looks down and sees October 23, 1964 – his dad’s birthday – written over the tape on his wrist.

It’s a reminder that uplifts the Xavier University graduate transfer and forces him to remember what’s really important.

“In games, when something’s going bad, I’ll just catch myself looking down,” said Castlin, who graduated from Columbia University with degrees in Psychology and African-American Studies. “There’s times when you put your head down on the court because something’s going wrong.
