Xavier had a 19-point lead in the first half, but the Musketeers imploded in the second half and lost to Butler 70-69 in overtime.
It's a loss that essentially ends any hope of an NCAA Tournament berth for the Musketeers.
Unlike its last two games, Xavier got off to a great start Wednesday night against Butler in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
The Musketeers went on a 20-2 run in the first half, propelled by 17 straight points from Xavier's three true freshmen.
Those freshmen – Colby Jones, CJ Wilcher and Dwon Odom – went a combined 11-for-16 from the field and scored 25 of Xavier's 40 points.
