VILLANOVA, PA. – Sixth-ranked Xavier fell from the ranks of the country's unbeatens Thursday at the hands of No. 16 Villanova, which delivered a 95-64 rout in a Big East opener at The Pavilion.
The bigger story of the afternoon was the injury sustained by Musketeers point guard Edmond Sumner, who fell hard after slicing through two defenders on a lay-up just 2:21 into play.
The outing took a somber turn as EMTs transferred Sumner to a stretcher. Musketeers players briefly encircled their teammate and Sumner received an ovation from the crowd as he was wheeled out of the arena.
