NEW YORK - After helping Xavier to a three-win week and a series victory over Villanova, junior outfielder Tyler DeMartino was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
DeMartino, a junior from Potomac, Md., batted .412 through four games for the Musketeers, collecting a team-high matching seven hits, including six for extra bases for a team-best 1.235 slugging percentage. Among those extra-base hits were four home runs, helping DeMartino collect a team-high nine RBIs as Xavier topped Wright State and took 2-of-3 against Villanova.
Against Wright State, DeMartino went 2-of-3, with a pair of walks, driving in three RBI and scoring two runs.
