Paul Scruggs' Xavier basketball career is over.
Dr. Robert Burger, the orthopedic surgeon for Xavier University athletics, announced on Tuesday that an MRI revealed that Scruggs suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the second half of Sunday's win over Florida in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Scruggs will undergo reconstructive surgery within the next two weeks.
Scruggs, who returned this season for a fifth year of eligibility after the NCAA issued a blanket waiver because of the COVID-19 pandemic, was as durable as it gets over the last five seasons, playing in a school-record 151 career games.
