Georgetown University's athletic department took a run at Xavier basketball head coach Chris Mack, and the Hoyas came up short in that endeavor.
The man Georgetown's reportedly settled on – former Hoyas and New York Knicks star Patrick Ewing – is quite the consolation prize.
ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported Monday Georgetown is set to hire Ewing to lead the Hoyas following the firing of long-tenured head coach John Thompson III, the son of Ewing's former coach with the Hoyas, John Thompson Jr.
The move to hire Ewing comes days after an interesting move by Georgetown athletics to attempt to steal Mack away Cincinnati.
