Jay Wright, the Villanova Wildcats' head coach since 2001, confirmed Wednesday night via Twitter that he is stepping down and handing over the reins to Fordham head coach Kyle Neptune, an assistant coach under Wright at Nova from 2013 to 2021. Neptune is 37.
Wright, 60, won national titles at Nova in 2016 and 2018. The Final Four he led the Wildcats to this past season was his fourth in 21 seasons as their head coach.
Since Xavier joined Villanova in the Big East in July 2013, the Musketeers' record against the Wildcats was 2-16.
