UPDATE: A day after University of Massachusetts named Pat Kelsey its new men's basketball head coach, the former Elder High School standout who also played and coached at Xavier University had a change of heart and opted not to take the job, according to multiple reports.
The school canceled a news conference it had scheduled for Thursday afternoon to announce Kelsey as its new coach.

Kelsey has been Winthrop's head coach since 2012. Before that, he spent three years as an associate head coach at Xavier with head coach Chris Mack, from 2001 to 2009 on Wake Forest's staff and from 1998 to 2001 as an assistant coach at Elder High School.
