No. 5 Xavier distanced itself from Creighton early in the second half and had to hold off a late rally from the Bluejays en route to a 98-93 win to improve to 26-4 overall and 14-4 in the Big East.
Xavier overcame a slow start to claim a 44-41 halftime lead over Creighton in Saturday’s regular-season finale before a sold-out crowd at Cintas Center.
It was an inauspicious beginning for the Musketeers, which missed six of their first seven shots. Junior forward Jalen Reynolds was called for a Flagrant 1 foul less than two minutes into action, but Khyri Thomas missed the ensuing free-throws.
