NEW YORK – Xavier's men's basketball team will play its final game of the season on Thursday (7 p.m., ESPN) at Madison Square Garden for the National Invitation Tournament championship.
"We got the opportunity to play for a championship," Xavier interim head coach Jonas Hayes told The Enquirer over the phone on Wednesday.
It's an opportunity Hayes has referenced often over the last two weeks since he took over for Travis Steele. Xavier also won the NIT title in 1958.
Texas A&M is going to make Xavier earn it, though. The Aggies (27-12) have been one of the hotter teams in the country over the last month.
