Xavier's first week of college basketball was intense. Much more dramatic than anticipated.
It featured two back-and-forth battles that carried deep into the second half with Saturday's game against Evansville – in front of more than 10,500 fans in the Cintas Center – going right down to the wire in a 91-85 Xavier win.
Leading 78-76 with under six minutes to play, Xavier went on a 9-0 run, sparked by guard Paul Scruggs and forward Tyrique Jones, both of whom had career nights and saved the day for the Musketeers.
Scruggs poured in a career-high 24 points with six rebounds and five assists.
