High school junior Elijah Tucker sat in his bedroom and clicked “launch Zoom.” When Travis Steele and Xavier’s other basketball coaches appeared on the screen, Tucker realized how unusual the rest of his recruiting process would be.
“They pulled up a powerpoint and walked me through a day in the life of a Xavier basketball player,” Tucker said.
It lacked the excitement of an official on campus visit, Tucker said, but Xavier is doing everything it can do as Steele tries to get more commitments for its 2021 recruiting class.
Since the college basketball season ended in March, Xavier’s coaches haven’t been able to hit the road recruiting, so Steele has tailored his recruiting process to fit the state of the world.
