NEW YORK – If the first half of Thursday’s Big East Tournament quarterfinal against Marquette is any indication, Xavier’s defense is back on track.
The second-seeded Musketeers led the seventh-seeded Golden Eagles 46-30 at Madison Square Garden, paced by Trevon Bluiett’s 12 points, J.P. Macura’s nine points, and Edmond Sumner’s eight points and five assists.
Fifth-ranked Xavier mounted a 13-0 run late in the half and led by as many as 18 points with 1:43 left in the frame. They largely had their way with a Golden Eagles team that shot dreadfully and missed its nine of its last 11 field goals.
