One of the wildest Xavier games in recent memory occurred Wednesday night in the Cintas Center, and the 16th-ranked Musketeers eked out a thrilling, 85-83, victory in overtime against No. 17 Providence.
Both teams entered tied for first place in the Big East. The win puts Xavier alone atop the standings, pending the outcome of No. 14 Marquette's late Wednesday night game against Villanova. Marquette is a half-game behind Xavier in the standings.
Providence's Jared Bynum missed what would have been a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in front of Providence's bench. The Friars' last look came after Xavier senior guard Souley Boum missed a free throw.
