MASON, Ohio - No. 2 seeded Xavier baseball fell to No. 1 seed UConn on Saturday, 6-4, forcing a second game in the BIG EAST Championship series, with the winner taking the 2023 BIG EAST Championship.
UConn posted runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth. Matt McCormick lead off the top of four with a single, took second on a wild pitch then scored after Jared Cushing put a ball into play to make it 3-1.
Xavier scored a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth, with Jack Housinger and Andrew Walker hitting singles, and Tyler DeMartino getting hit by a pitch to load the bases.
