PHILADELPHIA – New year, another shot at Villanova, same result for Xavier basketball.
No. 10-ranked Xavier was dismantled by No. 1 Villanova, 89-65, Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center before a less-than-capacity crowd.
What should have been a chance for Xavier to improve on its past embarrassments against the WIldcats – the Musketeers entered the game 1-8 against Villanova in Big East play – proved to be another frustrating chapter in the one-sided Villanova-Xavier story.
Villanova built a 26-point lead with more than four minutes remaining in the game and was essentially never threatened as they led wire-to-wire.
