Two decades ago, the night before Frederick Douglass High School and Chattahoochee High School were set to square off in the opening round of Georgia's regional postseason basketball tournament, Jonas Hayes, now one of Xavier University's assistant basketball coaches, and his twin brother, Jarvis, were deep in conversation about the game and what their Douglass team would have to do in order to win and advance so their senior season wouldn't end with an early playoff exit.
"I was suspended," Jarvis said. "I got into a little scuffle the game before the last regular-season game so I was suspended for the last regular-season game and this first-round playoff game.
