It happened naturally, but not without a great deal of effort and care.
Stan Kimbrough found a way to merge two things he loves – basketball and helping others – into a career.
"I've been fortunate to put two things that I truly love together," said Kimbrough.
When Kimbrough was at Xavier University in the late 80s, starring on the basketball court as a 2,000-point scorer, he was also a counselor to three young boys at the St. Aloysius Orphanage in Cincinnati.
He graduated in 1989 with a degree in social work, then played two seasons in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.
