University of Wyoming sophomore Daniel Hintz advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1500-meter run Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary in Sacramento, California.
Hintz finished fifth in the first heat with a time of 3 minutes, 52.96 seconds. Teammate Michael Downey (Cheyenne East), failed to advance despite running a personal best 3:51.43. Downey finished last in his heat but 21st overall. Hintz was 27th.
Also Thursday, UW senior Damon Unland was 17th in the hammer throw with a toss of 196 feet, 9 inches. Only the Top 12 in the event qualified for the NCAA Championships.
And former Natrona County standout Lauren Taubert, a sophomore at Kansas State, placed 29th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.
