Wyoming volleyball holds off Marquette for 3-2 win

The Wyoming volleyball team won its opening match of the UniWyo Pistol Pete's Showdown on Friday afternoon in Laramie, defeating Marquette 3-2 in five sets (25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 24-26, 15-12).

Bridget Shanahan led the Cowgirls with 18 kills on a .366 hitting percentage. Kayla Slofkiss chipped in 14 kills while Laura Beach had 10. Cori Aafedt led Wyoming with 24 assists while Courtney Chacon also dished out 22 of her own. Allison Waldvogel and Slofkiss each recorded 12 digs in the match.

Wyoming improved to 6-1 on the season, including four wins over major-conference teams. Marquette was receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
