Since Gov. Matt Mead unveiled his budget proposal on Dec. 1 for the 2017-18 biennium, University of Wyoming Athletic Director Tom Burman has kept quiet.
Mead recommended an $8 million appropriation of matching funds to UW athletics in his proposal. Last month, the state legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee approved Mead’s recommendation, moving it one step closer to being signed into law next month.
After both instances, Burman declined to comment to the Star-Tribune, deferring questions to UW’s vice president for governmental and community affairs, Chris Boswell.
“I felt it was important to clarify some misinformation that has been spewed about UW Athletics — multiple media outlets have been commenting about the ($8 million) Cowboy Joe Match ($4 million annually) that Governor Mead supported as well as (the Joint Appropriations Committee),” Burman wrote.
