University of Wyoming basketball legend Kenny Sailors honored at memorial service

LARAMIE — Fans, friends and relatives of former University of Wyoming basketball player Kenny Sailors attended his memorial service Friday morning at the Arena-Auditorium.

Sailors, who many credit for inventing the modern-day jump shot, passed away Saturday at the age of 95.

The Cowboys' 1943 NCAA tournament championship banner and Sailors' retired No. 4 jersey hung in the background behind his wooden casket, which rested at halfcourt.

Thomas Lund, pastor at Faith Community Church in Laramie, officiated the service under strict instructions from Sailors.

"You make sure at my funeral you don't let it be more about me than my savior," Sailors had once told Lund.
