Gov. Matt Mead on Tuesday afternoon revealed his budget proposal for the 2016-18 biennium.
Although Wyoming faces a projected $618 million shortfall in revenue through June 30, 2018, Mead recommended $8 million in matching funds toward University of Wyoming athletics.
UW requested $10 million, which would have fully continued the current per-year match of $5 million.
The match began in the 2014-15 fiscal year, when it paid 50 cents for every dollar raised by UW’s athletics booster organization, the Cowboy Joe Club.
In March, Mead signed into law an additional $4 million per year toward UW athletics — as part of his supplemental budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year — in order to create a $5 million, dollar-for-dollar match.
