Since Gov. Matt Mead unveiled his budget proposal on Dec. 1, recommending $8 million in matching funds for University of Wyoming athletics, UW Athletic Director Tom Burman has kept quiet.
He also declined to comment after the Wyoming State Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee approved Mead’s recommendation, moving the matching grant one step closer to fruition. He deferred all Star-Tribune questions to UW’s vice president for governmental and community affairs, Chris Boswell.
“I felt it was important to clarify some misinformation that has been spewed about UW Athletics — multiple media outlets have been commenting about the ($8 million) Cowboy Joe Match ($4 million annually) that Governor Mead supported as well as (the Joint Appropriations Committee),” Burman wrote.
