No matter how the coming years go as head coach of the University of Wisconsin swimming and diving teams, there's a good chance a web search for Yuri Suguiyama will still deliver a reference to his having coached Katie Ledecky.
When your most famous pupil wins Olympic gold at age 15, is named the best in her sport at 16 and solidifies the title with four more gold medals at the next Games, it's an enviable association to have.
"I think I'll always be connected with her," Suguiyama said, "which is a good thing."
For nearly five years before he landed his first job on a college staff in 2012, Suguiyama was Ledecky's coach with the Nation's Capital Swim Club.
