Madison — The top two areas of concern when Wisconsin opened preseason camp on Aug. 10 — offensive line and inside linebacker — remain unsettled.
Joe Rudolph, in his first season as UW's offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, plans to settle on his starting five this week.
Through eight practices, however, it appears Rudolph has five players ready to perform at a high level.
They are:
Left tackle Tyler Marz and center Dan Voltz, both returning starters; right guard Michael Deiter, a redshirt freshman who was close to playing last season and was lauded before camp by head coach Paul Chryst; senior left guard Ray Ball, who played well in the Outback Bowl last season but has no college starts; and freshman Jon Dietzen, who participated in spring ball and is one of the stronger players on the unit.
