The No. 1 Wisconsin women’s hockey team was 2.3 seconds away from a shutout and defeated Minnesota Duluth 5–1 Friday evening at a sold-out LaBahn Arena, improving the Badgers’ record to 18–1–0 on a blossoming season. 2,273 fans witnessed the Badgers’ first home game since a 3–1 victory over Ohio State on Nov. 5.
Wisconsin added two goals (Mekenzie Steffen and Abby Roque) less than 20 seconds apart about halfway through the first period to build a 2–0 lead. Each goal was a distance snipe on the blocker side of Duluth netminder Jessica Convery.
