In a roller-coaster match, the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (0-1 Big Ten, 6-4 overall) dropped a five-set thriller on the road to their rival No. 18 Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-0, 7-3) 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 27-25, 15-25, 16-18).
UW got off to a golden start in the opening set, with the block giving the Gophers fits. Wisconsin held a 15-13 lead before an ace from junior libero Gülce Güçtekin put it up 20-14. Senior Sarah Franklin had six kills in the opening frame while freshman setter Charlie Fuerbringer had two dump kills down the stretch for a comfortable 25-19 win for UW.
