Madison — Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson didn't need to endure any more lopsided losses.
He knew the football program needed a new voice, different leadership.
So one day after Maryland suffered a 49-28 loss at Ohio State, Anderson announced coach Randy Edsall had been fired.
The loss to the Buckeyes, on Oct. 10, followed a 45-6 loss to West Virginia and a 28-0 loss to Michigan. That trifecta of futility left Maryland 0-2 in the Big Ten and 2-4 overall.
Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley was in as interim head coach.
Edsall, 10-23 in league games (ACC and Big Ten) and 22-33 overall in four-plus seasons at Maryland, was out.
