Eugene, Ore. — Kelsey Card delivered in the clutch once again.
The University of Wisconsin junior discus thrower went deep on her next-to-last heave to finish second in the event Saturday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Card was sitting fourth when she unloaded a toss of 194 feet, 10 inches. That moved her up into second place. But she was unable to top that with her final throw.
Defending champion Shelby Vaughan of Texas A&M won with a heave of 201-5. Vaughan's mark is the best winning distance since 2004, when Nebraska's Becky Breisch won with a 204-5.
