Madison— The dilemma isn't easily solved for football coaches who believe in the importance of a productive running game.
If your team's running game sputters early, how long do you stick with it before letting the offense take flight?
"I think you try to make the best assessment you can, what is causing it," Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst said this week as UW prepared to host Purdue on Saturday. "I think there are times before when I've gotten away from a play — run or pass — because it doesn't go well.
"And yet there's times I think early in games when you want to see how they're (defending) it.
