UW defensive end Arthur Goldberg appears poised to be the No. 1 play-maker

Madison — Not long after spring practice opened in March, Wisconsin defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield made a move that on the surface appeared curious.

Breckterfield moved Arthur Goldberg, who carries 296 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame and started six games at nose tackle in 2014, to end.

To fill the vacancy in the middle, Breckterfield placed sophomore Conor Sheehy (6-4 and 272) at nose tackle with the No. 1 defense.

Breckterfield's reasoning: Goldberg could use his strength and explosiveness to set the edge of the defense and make plays in the backfield. Sheehy could use his strength and outstanding technique to occupy blockers on the inside.
