Kelsey Card was the only woman attempting to the qualify for the Summer Olympics at the U.S. track and field trials this month in both discus and shot put, and her experience on Thursday shows just how difficult a challenge that is.
A qualifier for the Rio de Janeiro games in the discus last week, Card could not register a legal throw in three attempts during the shot put preliminary round in Eugene, Oregon. The recent University of Wisconsin graduate fouled on all three throws.
