Madison – Tony Granato, Don Granato and Mark Osiecki all enjoyed jobs that were stable and fulfilling.
Yet listening Wednesday at the Kohl Center as the former University of Wisconsin players discussed their new professional challenge, working together to re-establish UW's men's hockey program as a national power, it was easy to understand why they are leaving those gigs to return to their alma mater.
"I love my job in Detroit," said 51-year-old Tony Granato, who replaces Mike Eaves as UW's head coach but will finish the season as an assistant with the Red Wings, who are fighting for an NHL playoff spot and have five regular-season games remaining.
