Madison — Greg Gard's trust in his players has been evident all season, but never more than the final seconds of Wisconsin's 66-63 victory over Xavier on Sunday night at the Scottrade Center.
The game was tied, UW had the ball thanks to a charge drawn by Zak Showalter but the Badgers had only 4.3 seconds left to navigate the length of the court in a second-round game in the NCAA East Region.
Gard's first thought: Call his last timeout to set up a play.
Nigel Hayes had another idea.
