The magic number for University of Wisconsin golfers Tuesday was 78, but that wasn't good enough to get Brooke Ferrell, Gabby Curtis or Rebecca Klongland into the upcoming Meijer LPGA Classic.
All three Badgers shot 6-over-par at Blythefield Country Club near Grand Rapids, Michi., during qualifying for the LPGA Tour event. They were among 36 golfers, most from Big Ten Conference schools, competing for two sponsor's exemptions into the tournament, which is July 23 through 26 at the same course.
Those went to Cat Peters of Michigan, who won the qualifier with a 2-under 70; and Northwestern's Kaitlin Park, who shot 72.
