Georgia Ellenwood made her final collegiate competition one she’ll never forget.
The University of Wisconsin senior posted top-six finishes in each of Saturday’s three events and scored 6,146 points to win the heptathlon title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
“It doesn’t really feel like I’m the first, because when I was recruited I knew about so many great heptathletes who have come through the program,” Ellenwood said. “To know that I’m one of them and I’m the best one that’s come through Wisconsin hasn’t really hit me yet.”
Ellenwood was second to Georgia’s Louisa Grauvogel after four events Friday, but on Saturday finished second in the long jump (19 feet, 9¾ inches) and fourth in the javelin (142-6) to move into first place entering the final event — the 800 meters.
