A short lapse in competitive running didn't faze Cambridge native Pat Jenkins, who won the Crazylegs Classic Run on Saturday in his first appearance in the race.
Jenkins, 24, broke the winner's banner in 24 minutes, 31 seconds and estimated the finish ranked among his three best times in an 8-kilometer race.
“I was surprised I could run that fast,” said Jenkins, who collected a slew of All-America honors and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles at UW-Stout. “I haven't raced since the beginning of January, so I really didn't know what shape I was in.”
Verona's Matt Barrett finished 14 seconds back (24:45) and Madison resident Brian Finnel (24:59) came in third for a second straight year.
