Tyler Mueller and Cory Hayden were hoping to work together near the front of the pack of the men's 8-kilometer Saturday during the 34th annual Crazylegs Classic run.
But after the Movin' Shoes teammates found themselves alone at the front of the pack for the final stretch through the University of Wisconsin campus, their strategy changed.
"We worked together really well throughout the race," Mueller said. "The last mile, we're teammates and we're friends, but we're competitors, too. We both wanted to win."
Saying he "had a little more left in the tank," Mueller — a former distance runner at Lehigh University who now works at Epic in Verona — surged to victory in his first Crazylegs Classic.
