College basketball: Former Stoughton coach Matt Hockett named lead assistant at Minnesota-Duluth

Less than four months after deciding to step down as Stoughton High School’s basketball coach, Matt Hockett is making basketball his full-time job.

The University of Minnesota-Duluth announced Monday that Hockett has been hired as the lead assistant to Bulldogs head coach Matt Bowen.

Hockett, a graduate of UMD and former Bulldogs basketball player and team captain, will begin in his new role this week.

“When I initially resigned (from Stoughton), I sat down with my family (and decided) the only way I’d be able to get back into coaching would be the perfect position,” Hockett, a product of McFarland High School, said in the school’s news release.
