The oldest rivalry in college football kicks off Saturday afternoon when the Wisconsin Badgers look to hang onto the Paul Bunyan Axe against a Minnesota Gophers team looking to not only become bowl eligible but to reclaim the Axe they have not won since 2003.
Not only is this the oldest rivalry, one that dates back to November 15, 1890, but it’s a battle for one of the greatest rivalry trophies is sports. The Paul Bunyan Axe is a mammoth of a trophy, standing at 6 feet tall and features the logo and colors of both teams on each side of the head of the axe with the score from every game written on the handle.
