Record-setting swimmer Cierra Runge has signed to join the University of Wisconsin's program and compete for the Badgers starting in 2016-17, coach Whitney Hite announced Monday.
Runge comes to UW after spending her freshman year at California, where she broke the NCAA record in the 500-yard freestyle. Runge also was a member of Cal’s NCAA- and American-record breaking 800-yard freestyle relay team.
Runge, the 2015 NCAA runner-up in the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle events, also has international experience. The Cochranville, Pennsylvania, native is a member of the USA National Team and competed at the 2015 World Championships.
