The University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team entered Friday night’s second-round NCAA tournament match as an underdog to No. 1 seed South Carolina.
The Badgers (14-6-2) dominated first-half possession and outshout the Gamecocks 5-2 before the break, but the hosts broke through before halftime. The Gamecocks performed as advertised, scoring a goal in the 39th minute en route to a 1-0 victory in Columbia.
Outshot 8-7 in all, UW finished with a 6-3 edge in corner kicks but could not find the net after scoring five goals in a first-round victory over Toledo.
