STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A goal-scoring flurry in the second half spoiled the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team’s Big Ten Conference opener.
The Badgers allowed three goals after halftime, resulting in a 4-0 loss to No. 4 Penn State on Thursday night.
UW (3-4-2 overall, 0-1-0 Big Ten) held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, but was unable to capitalize. Junior forward Rose Lavelle had a game-high five shots, including two on goal, for the Badgers.
The Nittany Lions (6-1-1, 1-0-0) got on the board in the 28th minute when Mallory Weber converted a centering pass from Ellie Jean and beat UW sophomore goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem with a shot to the upper-left corner.
