EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Wisconsin senior Alex Thompson earned honorable-mention All-America honors in the discus with a 19th-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Hayward Field.
Thompson's best throw of 180 feet, 5 inches came on his first attempt. He fouled on his second attempt before throwing 169-5 on his final effort.
Penn junior Sam Mattis won with a heave of 205-0.
"We're proud of Alex," UW Director of Track & Field Mick Byrne said. "He didn't have his best day today, but we're thrilled he was able to wrap up his career at the NCAA championships.
