Ten University of Wisconsin track and field athletes hoped to take the next step toward the NCAA outdoor championships at West Preliminary meet on Thursday in Lawrence, Kansas, but only one got the chance after thunderstorms wiped out most of the day's events.
Senior Brianna Bower, a former Stoughton athlete, was the only Badger to compete before heavy rains and lightning forced a series of delays and ultimately the postponement of the rest of the day's schedule until Friday. Bower had a top mark of 154 feet, 5 inches in the javelin, where she is the school record-holder.
