University of Wisconsin men’s tennis players Jakhongir Jalalov and John Zordani each won two qualifying matches Thursday to move within a victory of making the main draw of the ITA Midwest Regional in South Bend, Indiana.
Jalalov, a senior who is seeded No. 2 in the qualifying bracket, defeated Chicago State’s Gabriel Niculescu and Indiana State’s Andreas Boers by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Zordani battled back from losing the tiebreaker in the second set of both his matches. The sophomore defeated Illinois State’s Rodrigo Oliveira 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 before topping Youngstown State’s Hugo Morth, 6-1, 6-7 (7), 6-3.
